Part-time Instructors
Part-time instructors are needed for programs offered in interior design, graphic design, retail merchandising, clothing design, and housing studies.
Minimum Qualifications
Teaching Specialist
- Bachelor’s degree plus professional recognition in the field.
- Master’s degree preferred in design, housing, retail merchandising, or closely related field
- Competence to teach in the content area
- Supporting portfolio of work in content area for studio teaching (graphic design, design foundations, interior design, clothing design)
Lecturer
- Bachelor’s degree required plus substantial and demonstrated professional recognition
- Master’s or doctorate preferred in design, housing, retail merchandising, or closely related field
- Demonstrated teaching excellence in design, housing, retail merchandising, or closely related field
- Supporting portfolio of work in content area for studio teaching (graphic design, design foundations, interior design, clothing design)
NCIDQ certification is desired for interior design instructors.
Responsibilities
To teach a variety of courses as needed. Possible courses offered include:
Graphic Design:
- Graphic Design (various levels)
- Typographic Design (various levels)
- Computer graphics and desktop publishing (beginning and intermediate)
- Interactive Media (intermediate and advanced)
- Color (beginning and intermediate)
- Packaging Design
- Two and Three Dimensional Design (beginning and intermediate)
- Fiber Structure (various levels and subtopics)
- Surface Fabric Design (beginning and intermediate)
- Design Foundations
- Bookmaking
- Photography
Interior Design:
- Computer Aided Design for Interior Design
- Interior Design Studio (beginning and intermediate)
Clothing Design:
- Pattern Development
- Apparel Analysis
- Apparel Industries
- Fashion Trends and Visual Analysis
- Apparel Assembly
Housing Studies:
- Residential Technology
- Housing for Elderly and Special Populations
- Housing Development and Management
Retail Merchandising:
- Retail Promotion
- Retail Buying
- Non-store Retailing
Term
Part-time, academic professional (P&A) appointment, between August and May. Applicants who are hired for teaching positions for the academic year will be eligible for appointment in the following year to similar positions without additional application materials. Continuation of appointment is based on funding and performance.
Salary
Commensurate with experience and within University salary schedule
